Frequently asked questions
Welcome to our FAQ page! If you're looking to scrap your car and have questions about the process, you've come to the right place.
Collection questions

After you accept a quote for your vehicle, we will coordinate for the collector to get in touch with you directly. This usually happens the same day or the next, but it can take up to 48 hours. When the buyer reaches out, they will go over collection options with you and arrange a pickup time that works for both parties. The actual collection could happen within a few hours or take a couple of days, depending on the collector’s schedule. However, our collectors strive to pick up vehicles as quickly as possible and will inform you if there are any unexpected delays.

Yes. All of the buyers on our network operate with free collections as standard and so the price you are quoted for your vehicle, is the price you will receive, subject to inspection.

All payments are made upon collection of your vehicle, either via BACS transfer or business cheque. BACS payments typically clear instantly but may take up to 24 hours in some cases, while cheques generally take 3-4 days to clear.

Paperwork questions

When scrapping your vehicle, the buyer will need to verify your identity for legal purposes. Therefore, you’ll need to provide the following documentation, if applicable:

  • Photo ID
  • A utility bill (dated within the last three months)
  • V5C (vehicle registration document)
  • Any vehicle history (such as old MOTs, receipts, or service records)

Both you and the vehicle collector will need to complete section 9 of the V5C. Failure to do so could result in a fine of up to £1,000, and you may still be held responsible for any fines or tickets the vehicle receives after it has been sold. Once the form is completed, it is your responsibility to send it to the DVLA. If your vehicle is sold for scrap, you should receive a Certificate of Destruction within 7 days, confirming that it has been destroyed in accordance with government guidelines. However, if the vehicle is resold or bought for salvage, you will not receive a Certificate of Destruction.

All of the collectors in our network are dedicated to making the process as hassle-free as possible. With years of industry experience, they know the process inside and out. Both you and the collector will need to sign section 9 of the V5C document, but it will be your responsibility to send it to the DVLA. If you have any questions, our collectors or in-house team are here to assist and guide you through the process.

On October 1st, 2013, the Scrap Metal Dealers Act was introduced to combat rogue traders and the sale of stolen materials. As part of this legislation, collectors are required to verify the identity of the person selling the vehicle. To comply with these regulations, they will need to see Photo ID and a recent utility bill.

Vehicle questions

No problem at all! Our buyers can collect vehicles from nearly any location, as long as the area is accessible for a recovery vehicle.

Removing parts from your vehicle can significantly impact the quoted price, as it may limit the vehicle to being scrapped rather than sold for salvage. However, your vehicle will still hold value. To find out how much your vehicle is worth, simply fill out the form above with your vehicle’s details, and we will search our nationwide network of buyers to find the most suitable buyer and the best price for you.

Once you accept a quote for your vehicle, the buyer will reach out to arrange the collection. What happens after collection depends on the reason the vehicle was purchased. It may be bought to be dismantled and scrapped at an Authorised Treatment Facility (ATF), or it could be bought for salvageable parts. In the latter case, parts of your vehicle will be removed, repaired, or used to help get another vehicle back on the road.

No. All of our buyers use professional recovery vehicles and so no tax, insurance or MOT is required for them to retrieve your vehicle. Please be aware that if your vehicle is parked on a public road, it will need to be insured up to the day of collection. If you would like your vehicle removed of safely and legally, the buyers on our network can arrange this for you whilst you get paid in the process!
